War for Talent and the Retention Dilemma in the Airline Industry : Organisational Attractiveness as a Solution

Underpinned by signalling theory, this study develops an index to identify and prioritise factors affecting the airline industry's organisational attractiveness (OA). Specifically, the fuzzy Delphi method (FDM) was used to validate a list of factors that boost OA, and the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was used to determine the priorities among factors using industry expert judgments. The results revealed that job characteristics and perceived P-J fit are the most salient criteria and sub-criteria. This study contributes to the knowledge base by proposing a unified index of constitutional components of OA in the airline industry. In addition, this study contributes theoretically through the advancement of fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (fuzzy MCDM) as a strategic tool in identifying and prioritising organisational attractiveness index components. Managerial implications and further areas for research are also provided
