Western PMSs in the UAE: researcher examines effectiveness of applying western performance management systems in ‘collectivist’ culture
Purpose: This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies. Design: This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context. Findings: A researcher from Dubai studied the application of Western performance management systems (PMSs) in the non-western context of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The study, based on data from 439 employees, explored the best practice attributes of e traditional single-rating and multi-rating 360° PMSs. It also offered evidence for the significant role of uncertainty avoidance and power distance orientation as mediators. Originality: The briefing saves busy executives, strategists, and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.
