The pattern of non-union wage supplements: a switching regression approach
Donohue, Susan - In: Applied Economics Letters 4 (1997) 12, pp. 741-743
This paper estimates whether non-union wage supplements associated with unionization are larger for low wage workers. Switching regression estimates determine low and high wage samples and demonstrate larger supplements for most low wage workers. The pattern varies by occupational group.

Predicting wages from transformed wage equations
Barrientos, Armando; Firinguetti, Luis - In: Applied Economics Letters 4 (1997) 11, pp. 709-710
The log-linear specification of wage equations is commonly used in the applied economics literature. Predictions of the retransformed wage are not straightforward as the standard approach (naive estimator) produces biased predictions. Duan (1983) proposes a smearing estimator which overcomes...

Determinants of global portfolio composition
Muhtaseb, Majed - In: Applied Economics Letters 4 (1997) 8, pp. 503-505
The efficient set is derived using unhedged returns of stock market indices of 'Group of Seven' countries. It is found that total risk is far more important than return in determining whether or not a stock market index is included in an optimal portfolio on the efficient set.
