Forecasting Inflation in China
Mehrotra, Aaron; Sánchez-Fung, José R. - Siirtymätalouksien tutkimuslaitos, Suomen Pankki - 2008
This paper forecasts inflation in China over a 12-month horizon. The analysis runs 15 alternative models and finds that only those considering many predictors via a principal component display a better relative forecasting performance than the univariate benchmark.

Karas, Alexei; Schoors, Koen; Weill, Laurent - Siirtymätalouksien tutkimuslaitos, Suomen Pankki - 2008
We study whether bank efficiency is related to bank ownership in Russia. We find that foreign banks are more efficient than domestic private banks and – surprisingly – that domestic private banks are not more efficient than domestic public banks. These results are not driven by the choice of...

Fungacova, Zuzana; Solanko, Laura - Siirtymätalouksien tutkimuslaitos, Suomen Pankki - 2008
The Russian banking sector has experienced enormous growth rates during the last 6-7 years. The rapid growth of assets has, however, contributed to a decrease in the capital adequacy ratio, thus influencing the ability of banks to cope with risk. Using quarterly data spanning from 1999 to 2007...
