Tricks and treats: Nonlinear operations in digital simulation
Korn, Granino A. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 2, pp. 129-143
This report describes powerful shortcuts for programming common nonlinear functions, transfer characteristics, and signal generators useful for digital dynamic-system simulation, and also for digital instrumentation and control These computer routines are digital equivalents of analog diode and...

Two-fluid modelling of phase redistribution by obstructions
Carver, M.B.; Salcudean, M. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 5, pp. 399-412
It is well known that obstructions in two-fluid flow act as mixers, homogenizing the flow towards a more uniform phase distribution, and also causing a significant reduction in relative velocity. Following a recently published study in which a two-dimensional two-fluid computer program was used...

Some simulation results as to weakly correlated processes
vom Scheidt, J.; Fellenberg, B. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 3, pp. 191-208
The investigation of linear functionals of weakly correlated processes which arise e.g. from the solutions of random differential equation problems are dealt with. A brief survey of the theory of weakly correlated processes is given, and especially, approximations of moments and distributions of...

A method for the numerical integration of mechanical systems with unilateral constraints: study of impact in multibody systems
Drenovac, Vojin - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 5, pp. 413-420
Study of mechanical systems with unilateral constraints is associated with forming two systems of equations, a system of differential equations and a system of algebraical equations. Differential equations are used to describe the motion until the moment of impact, i.e. until activation of...

Modelling and simulation of electrically stimulated nerve and muscle fibers: A review
Rattay, Frank - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 5, pp. 357-366
The behaviour of nerve and muscle fibers can be simulated by computers using physiologically established equations. This paper discusses several local models and their applications. Spatial models are necessary for modelling propagating activities of fibers. Spatial models can be obtained by the...

On a Petrov–Galerkin method for the electrical and thermal behaviour of semiconductor devices in two dimensions
Miller, John J.H. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 5, pp. 367-372
We consider the equations governing the electrical and thermal behaviour of a semiconductor device in two dimensions. A non-standard Petrov-Galerkin method is used to obtain a discretisation of the equations for stationary problems. The resulting scheme is a generalization to the two-dimensional...

Simulation and modeling of a single bus tightly coupled multiprocessor system
Witten, M.; Bodnar, B.L.; Liu, A.C. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 1, pp. 19-31
This paper presents a new queuing approach for the modeling of single bus tightly coupled multiprocessors, and a new simulation method which allows for its analysis. The model considers the macroscopic behavior of the multiprocessor, as well as the local program behavior. A new simulation method...

On the continuous approximation of the probability density and of the entropy functions for nonlinear stochastic dynamical systems
Bonzani, I.; Zavattaro, M.G.; Bellomo, N. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 3, pp. 233-241
This paper deals with the problem of the continuous approximation of the probability density and of the entropy function of a large class of nonlinear stochastic systems with random initial conditions and parameters. The proposed method generalizes to the stochastic case a continuous...

On the synthesis of optimal control for the continuous-time linear stochastic systems with singular mean-square performance index
Serebrovski, A.P. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 29 (1987) 3, pp. 261-273
Some necessary and sufficient conditions are found for the existence of the optimal control for systems with a singular mean-square performance index. Optimal control is obtained by the use of pseudo-inverse. The asymptotic behavior of sub-optimal control is also studied.
