The simulation of saturable reactors with digital differential analyzers
Savastano, G. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 3 (1961) 2, pp. 64-73
The system of two differential equations and eight algebric equations which represent the operation of saturable reactors is given and the possibility of their simulation by means of Digital Differential Analyzers is illustrated.

Iterative methods of solution for the elliptic fourth boundary value problem
Benson, A.; Evans, D.J. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 21 (1979) 3, pp. 282-288
A special form of the elliptic fourth boundary value problem has been investigated by Hockney (1965). The techniques used, however, are valid only for a Laplacian operator on a square mesh. In this paper, a more general solution process is introduced for a wide range of problems.

Representation analogique des echanges thermiques au sein de reacteurs nucleaires heterogenes
Witsenhausen, H. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 4 (1962) 1, pp. 6-14
Cet article introduit la manière sous laquelle il faut envisager les problèmes thermiques d'un réacteur nucléaire et des échangeurs de chaleur qui lui font suite.

An identification of parameters on a hybrid computer
Bassano, J.C; Lennon, Y; Vignes, J - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 18 (1976) 1, pp. 3-7
The authors describe in this paper some findings concerning the identification of parameters of a chemical process. This problem was solved by several optimization methods on various computers and on an hybrid computer. Comparison is made of the obtained results and of the computation times....

Hybrid computer solution of queueing systems
Khalil, T.M.; Valisalo, P.E.; Copsey, A. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 15 (1973) 2, pp. 49-53
Digital computers have been widely used for solving queueing problems. However, when the complexity of the problem increases the computational time and cost rise exponentially. A hybrid computer approach has been developed where the rise in cost caused by the complexity of the problem is...

A pressure-enthalpy finite element model for simulating hydrothermal reservoirs
Huyakorn, Pongsarl; Pinder, George F. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 20 (1978) 3, pp. 167-178
A numerical model is presented for simulating single or two-phase flow and energy transport in hydrothermal reservoirs. The model is formulated via two non-linear equations for fluid pressure and enthalpy. Both equations are solved simultaneously using a new finite element technique which...

The use of iterative methods for solving large sparse PDE-related linear systems
Kincaid, David R.; Grimes, Roger G.; Young, David M. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 21 (1979) 4, pp. 368-375
A preliminary report is given on the ITPACK project for developing adaptive iterative algorithms and software for solving large sparse PDE-related linear systems of equations. These iterative procedures are implemented in a collection of Fortran subroutines.

Analytical solution of differential equations with the use of differential analyser
Petrich, J.; Madich, P. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 2 (1960) 3, pp. 122-126
With the use of differential analyser it is possible to obtain the solutions of linear differential equations both in analog and analytical form. The role of the analyser in the analytical solution of differential equations is in finding the zeros of the characteristik polynomial. Although the...

Optimization of some dynamic industrial control processes by analog simulation
Jamshidi, M. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 18 (1976) 2, pp. 93-100
The analog computer has, for several years, been used to simulate the dynamic behaviour of some electrical systems such as servomechanisms and other control systems. In this paper some dynamic industrial processes are first formulated and solved as an optimal control problem via the Pontryagin's...

The spectrum of mathematical modeling and systems simulation
Karplus, Walter J. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 19 (1977) 1, pp. 3-10
The methodology involved in the modeling and simulation of physical, life and social science systems is viewed in perspective. A critical factor determining the validity of a model is the extent to which it can be derived from basic laws and insights into the internal structure of the system...
