A Monte Carlo technique using a fast repetitive analog computer for determining lowest eigenvalues of partial differential equations for various boundaries, with applications
D'Aquanni, Richard T. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 12 (1970) 2, pp. 81-90
This paper describes a Monte Carlo technique for estimating the lowest eigenvalues of certain elliptic and hyperbolic partial differential equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions. (2) A stochastic process whose output conditional probability density distribution satisfies a partial...

A note on the optimal inverter problem
Wong, J.K. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 21 (1979) 1, pp. 39-41
A proof is given that the optimal inverter problem is NP-complete. Other related problems are also shown to be NP-complete.

Pattern recognition using a hybrid computer
van der Mast, C.A.P.G. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 14 (1972) 2, pp. 63-64
A method is developed for hybrid simulation of a linear sequential learning algorithm. Up to 60 weights can be corrected very fast simultaneously. Computing times are mainly dependent on speed of presentation of the patterns to the analogue computer. One type of analogue circuit seemed most...

A novel paper-tape function generator and multiplier
Lovas, Laszlo T.; Soudack, Avrum C. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 8 (1966) 4, pp. 197-202
This paper describes a novel function generator and multiplier using digital-to-analog conversion techniques. The device has been designed and built to supplement the existing analog computer facilities at the University of British Columbia.

A new approach to the simulation of static converter drives
Bellini, Armando; Cerri, Claudio; De Carli, Alessandro - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 17 (1975) 1, pp. 3-7
In electrical drives using an actuator supplied by a static converter, it is possible to work out a model of the converter-motor system which is easily implemented on a hybrid or digital computer. This model can be elaborated to improve the efficiency of the digital simulation. Computation time...

An improved method for analog computer scaling
Hall, C.R.; Kahne, S.J. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 12 (1970) 1, pp. 27-32
It is convenient to consider analog computer programs in two parts, patching and amplifier input factors. Scaling is accomplished by the specification of the input factors. In this paper a simple method is presented for imposing both magnitude and time scaling factors. Negative time scaling is...

Parameter estimation applied to physiological systems
Rideout, V.C.; Beneken, J.E.W. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 17 (1975) 1, pp. 23-36
Parameter estimation techniques are of ever-increasing interest in the fields of medicine and biology, as greater efforts are currently being made to describe physiological systems in explicit quantitative form. Although some of the techniques of parameter estimation as developed for use in...

High gain integrated amplifiers stabilize function generators
Rodriguez-Izquierdo, G.; Civit, A. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 13 (1971) 4, pp. 156-159
The insertion of high gain integrated amplifiers in diode function generators results in improved precision and better thermal stability of the circuit. Decreasing output slopes can be obtained from increasing input signals. The design philosophy involved is somewhat different from the usual one...

Determining the character of the relation between heat input and reflux ratio in a rectification column
Pesina (Phraha), Ing. I. - In: Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM) 7 (1965) 1, pp. 7-11
The theoretical analysis shows that if the assumption of the constant tray efficiency of a rectification column is included in the mathematical model, the relation between thermal input and reflux ratio has a character of an unambiguous and monotone function.
