TWO NEW EXPONENTIAL FAMILIES OF LORENZ CURVES
Wang, ZuXiang; Smyth, Russell - Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, … - 2007
We present two new Lorenz curve families by using the basic model proposed by Sarabia, Castillo and Slottje (1999). We present estimations which show that the models in our new families are very efficient when applied to data on income distribution for a range of countries from Shorrocks (1983).

NEW EVIDENCE ON THE CAUSAL LINKAGES BETWEEN FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT, EXPORTS AND IMPORTS IN MALAYSIA
Wong, Koi Nyen; Tang, Tuck Cheong - Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, … - 2007
By extending Wong and Tang’s (2007) study, this study aims to further explore the causal relations between FDI (foreign direct investment), exports and imports. There is a unique long-run causal relationship running from exports as well as imports to FDI. A bidirectional causal...

CORRUPTION, UNCERTAINTY AND GROWTH
Dzhumashev, Ratbek - Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, … - 2007
Corruption in the public sector erodes tax compliance and leads to higher tax evasion. Moreover, corrupt public officials abuse their public power to extort bribes from the private agents. In both types of interaction with the public sector, the private agents are bound to face uncertainty with...

The Inverse Domino Effect: Are Economic Reforms Contagious?
Gassebner, Martin; Gaston, Noel; Lamla, Michael - Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, … - 2007
This paper examines whether a country’s economic reforms are affected by reforms adopted by other countries. A simple model of economic reforms is developed to motivate the econometric work. Unsurprisingly, the model predicts that reforms are more likely when factors of production are...

MEASURING THE SUCCESS OF COUNTRY FOOTBALL CLUBS
Frost, Lionel; Halabi, Abdel K. - Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, … - 2007
Until the last quarter of the twentieth century, non-metropolitan Australian Rules football clubs prospered as volunteer organisations, operating in regions that were protected by distance from clubs in larger, competing leagues. They acted as places that people valued and were important...

ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE: THE ECONOMY OF THE INLAND CORRIDOR
Frost, Lionel - Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, … - 2007
In current debates about regional Australia, many observers point to a gap in incomes and access to services between Australia’s capital cities and the rest of the nation. Supporters of this view tend to see government intervention as necessary to reverse the declining fortunes of regions...

Valenzuela, Rebecca; Lean, Hooi Hooi - Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, … - 2007
We apply stochastic dominance tests to investigate trends in inequality in Australia over the period 1983 to 1998. Results show significant levels of inequalities in the income and expenditure distributions for the population as a whole as well as within population groups. We further find that...

PLANNING FOR THE END OF THE CONSTRUCTION BOOM AND TRANSITION TO A NORMAL ECONOMY IN ACEH AND NIAS
Rice, Robert - Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, … - 2007
There is a very real danger that the transition from the Construction Boom in 2009 to a rapidly growing sustainable normal economy in Aceh will not happen unless both preventive and effective constructive measures are implemented during the coming two years. Instead what could easily happen is a...
