Fifth virial coefficient for a system of hard disks
Kratky, K.W. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 85 (1976) 3, pp. 607-615
The most accurate value of the fitth virial coefficient B5 for a system of hard disks has been (0.3338±0.0005) B42 until now, where B2 is the second virial coefficient. The present work describes methods of calculation and gives the improved value B5 = 0.3335561 B42, the last digit being uncertain.

Perturbation theory for square-well plus sutherland (∞, 6) fluid
Boghdadi, M. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 85 (1976) 1, pp. 193-201
The perturbation approach to the theory of fluids, originally introduced by Zwanzig, is applied to the square-well plus Sutherland (∞, 6) fluid. It is shown that the virial coefficients up to the fourth are in close agreement with those for the LJ (12-6) with a hard-sphere cutoff when the bowl...

On the quantum kinetic equation for molecular gases
Petrus, O. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 82 (1975) 2, pp. 273-293
A rigorous derivation of a quantum kinetic equation for dilute homogeneous diatomic gases with noncentral interactions is presented. This equation generalizes the Waldmann-Snyder equation, describing the relaxation of both diagonal and nondiagonal terms of the quantum distribution function...

A simple way of understanding some exact results on critical phenomena in non-homogeneous and finite Ising systems III
Decker, I.; Hahn, H. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 93 (1978) 1, pp. 215-243
A generalization of Ferrell's continuum approximation for the transfer matrix is utilized to obtain a physically transparent calculation of the specific heat of a two-dimensional Ising model with a “layer”-type inhomogeneity in its exchange coupling, including small (quenched!) statistical...

The viscomagnetic effect in polar gases
van Ditzhuyzen, P.G.; Thijsse, B.J.; Van Der Meij, L.K.; … - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 88 (1977) 1, pp. 53-87
The magnetic field effect on the viscosity has been measured for several polyatomic gases with the emphasis on symmetric top molecules with strong electric dipoles. Theoretical expressions are given for the field dependent viscosity coefficients for various types of angular momentum...

Condition of stochasticity in quantum nonlinear systems
Berman, G.P.; Zaslavsky, G.M. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 97 (1979) 2, pp. 367-382
Quantum K-systems can usually be regarded as the systems which are conventional K-systems at ℏ = 0, i.e. they have the property of mixing trajectories in a phase space. The master kinetic equation without a priori random phase assumptions is derived in the quasiclassical approximation for the...

Non-equilibrium thermodynamics of a discontinuity surface
Vodák, F. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 93 (1978) 1, pp. 244-254
A comprehensive axiomatic system of the non-equilibrium thermodynamics of a surface of discontinuity is formulated. The general formulation of the axioms is applied to the problem of an n-component visco-elastic isotropic non-polar mixture. The effect of mass currents from one phase to the other...

Time evolution and spectral concentration in quantum systems
Brändas, E. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 82 (1976) 1, pp. 97-112
Time dependence and spectral concentration in quantum systems are reviewed. A partitioning technique is presented based on retarded and advanced propagators. The associated fundamental time symmetry is conveniently formulated in correspondence with the classical notion of reversal of time and...

Phenomenological bridge between high- and low-energy behavior in QCD
Cornwall, John M. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 96 (1979) 1, pp. 189-196
So far, permanent confinement of quarks is a purely phenomenological principle, not yet derived from quantum chromodynamics (QCD). A phenomenological model is exhibited that has confinement as well as the usual asymptotically-free short-distance behavior of QCD, and a crude approximation is made...

Statistical mechanics of composite particles
Fleckinger, R.; Gomes, A.; Soulet, Y. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 85 (1976) 3, pp. 485-508
This paper is concerned with the Statistical Mechanics of an hydrogenic plasma with randomly fixed ions. Starting from the “physical” problem we introduce an “ideal” problem (with an enlarged state space); the latter is defined in such a way that its dynamical evolution leads to the...
