Geometry of the roots of hydrodynamic matrices in the dissipation-free limit
Lekkerkerker, H.N.W.; Van Oost, E. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 84 (1976) 3, pp. 628-632
It is shown that a hydrodynamic matrix describing the coupling between n variables that are even under time reversal and m variables that are odd has in the dissipation-free limit 2n or 2m (whichever is smaller) purely imaginary roots and ∣n − m∣ roots that are zero.

Confinement of quarks in nuclear matter
Baym, Gordon - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 96 (1979) 1, pp. 131-135
The transition from low density nuclear matter to high density quark matter can, it is argued, take place in two steps: first, a percolation transition at (subnuclear densities, if the radius of the nucleon is ⪅1 fm) in which the quarks become deconfined but still remain localized, followed by...

Spectral properties of the Kirkwood-Salsburg operator
Moraal, H. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 87 (1977) 2, pp. 331-343
A mathematically precise definition of the “infinite-volume” Kirkwood-Salsburg operator as a bounded linear operator in a Banach space is given. It is shown that this operator has a bounded inverse for a bounded, stable and regular pair potential. These facts are exploited to establish the...

Markovian nature of the two-dimensional self-avoiding random walk problem
Wiegel, F.W. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 98 (1979) 1, pp. 345-351
We show that the number of self-avoiding random walks in the plane can be deduced — in the limit of very long walks — from an integral equation for a function of three variables. This demonstrates the Markovian nature of this problem in two dimensions.

La thermodiffusion et le théorème du minimum de la production d'entropie
Weill, M.E. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 92 (1978) 3, pp. 623-629

Quantum mechanics in phase space
Krüger, J.G.; Poffyn, A. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 91 (1978) 1, pp. 99-112
The correspondence of a linear canonical transformation in phase space with a linear unitary transformation in the Hilbert space L2(R) yields in a unique way the Wigner kernel. With this kernel function the unitary transformations corresponding to finite linear transformations are calculated in...

Stochastic analysis of a nonequilibrium phase transition: Some exact results
Nicolis, G.; Turner, J.W. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 89 (1977) 2, pp. 326-338
A system involving all-or-none transitions away from equilibrium is considered. Under the assumption of spatially homogeneous fluctuations an integral representation of the solution of the master equation is derived, which permits an exact evaluation of the variance in the thermodynamic limit. A...

Viscosity and thermal conductivity for symmetric top molecules under the simultaneous influence of an electric and a magnetic field
't Hooft, G.W.; Köhler, W.E.; Knaap, H.F.P. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 98 (1979) 1, pp. 105-117
Viscosity and thermal conductivity of a gas consisting of polyatomic molecules in the presence of both an electric and a magnetic field are treated. The symmetry properties of the transport coefficients are given. Kinetic theory expressions for the viscosity and thermal conductivity coefficients...

On the theory of the viscomagnetic diffusion flux (bulk effect)
Köhle, W.E.; Eggermont, G.E.J. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 91 (1978) 1, pp. 17-32
For a streaming polyatomic gas mixture in an external magnetic field, a diffusion flux arises perpendicular to both flow and field directions. The viscomagnetic diffusion flux is treated by extending the inverse operator technique previously used for the calculation of first order Chapman-Enskog...
