Evolution of observables in a laurent hamiltonian system
Grecos, A.P.; Mareschal, M. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 83 (1976) 2, pp. 419-424
We discuss the behaviour of a class of local observables, which tend to equilibrium values determined by the asymptotic collision operator of the system.

On the three-term approximation of the solution of the Boltzmann equation for weakly ionized gases
Ferrari, L. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 81 (1975) 2, pp. 276-294
In this paper we discuss an improvement of the current technique of solution of the Boltzmann equation for weakly ionized gases in an electric field. The method is based on the usual expansion of the velocity distribution in spherical harmonics, but three terms of the expansion are retained...

Investigation of the stability of Boltzmann's collision equation by a family of Lyapunov functionals
Maass, W. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 89 (1977) 2, pp. 411-418
For Boltzmann's equation a continuous family of Lyapunov functionals (entropy-like functionals) is established which imply under suitable boundary conditions uniform equi-boundedness of the solutions and (uniform) asymptotic stability in the large and integral stability of the equilibrium...

The classical limit for scattering in liquids
Revzen, Michael; Ron, Amiram; Trainor, L.E.H. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 99 (1979) 1, pp. 365-368
A new derivation is given of the so-called Schofield prescription for taking the classical limit of quantum expressions describing processes in which foreign particles are scattered off particles in a liquid. The results indicate that another term should be included in taking this classical limit.

On the kinetic theory of Brownian motion
Belyi, V.V.; Klimontovich, Yu.L. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 97 (1979) 3, pp. 577-588
The influence of fluctuations on the kinetic processes of Brownian motion is investigated. We consider fluctuations for which the correlation time is comparable with the relaxation time of the distribution function. Taking such large scale fluctuations into account is shown to lead to a change...

Diffusion of polymers near a fluid-fluid interface or a wall
Jones, R.B. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 83 (1975) 1, pp. 72-84
We evaluate the diffusion tensor for the translational motion of a polymer near an interface between two fluids. We consider two polymer models, rigid rods and spherical molecules of uniform density. For a polymer very near the interface we find significant corrections to the bulk fluid result.

Linked-cluster expansions in the equations of motion method for nonequilibrium processes
Der, R.; Haberlandt, R. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 79 (1975) 6, pp. 597-616
For an arbitrary irreversible process taking place in a closed physical system equations of motion are derived directly from the Liouville equation without introducing any projection operator. These equations are of nonmarkowian nature and are exactly valid for any system arbitrarily far from...

New approximations to the virial equation of state for fluids
Reijnhart, R. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 83 (1975) 3, pp. 533-547
A simple equation of state for square-well (SW) molecules has been derived by approximating the radial distribution function in the virial equation by a corresponding function for hard spheres. If optimum parameters for the SW potential are chosen, experimental P-V-T data for methane, ethane,...

Boundary conditions and non-equilibrium thermodynamics
Bedeaux, D.; Albano, A.M.; Mazur, P. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 82 (1975) 3, pp. 438-462
The theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics is applied to a system of two immiscible fluids and their interface. A singular energy density at the interface, which is related to the phenomenon of surface tension, is taken into account. Furthermore the momentum and the heat currents are allowed...

Square lattice calculations for the general dimer and trimer problems using the Kikuchi method
Kaye, R.D.; Burley, D.M. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 87 (1977) 3, pp. 499-514
Square lattice models for the general dimer and trimer problems are considered. A secondary lattice for the dimer problem is constructed, and a double square Kikuchi calculation produces an athermal molecular freedom within 2% of the known exact result. With interactions, departures from...
