A phenomenological theory of light scattering by surfaces
Vlieger, J.; Bedeaux, D. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 82 (1975) 2, pp. 221-246
A phenomenological theory of light scattering by surfaces is presented. The differential intensity of the scattered light is found in terms of autocorrelation functions characteristic for the distribution of matter in the surface layer. Local field factors are found.

Variational principles and Heisenberg matrix mechanics
Klein, Abraham; Li, Ching-Teh - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 96 (1979) 1, pp. 243-253
If in Heisenberg's equations of motion for a problem in quantum mechanics (or quantum field theory) one studies matrix elements in the energy representation and by use of completeness conditions expresses the equations solely in terms of matrix elements of the canonical variables, and if one...

Relativistic Boltzmann theory for a plasma
van Erkelens, H.; van Leeuwen, W.A. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 90 (1978) 1, pp. 97-108
The linear laws pertaining to viscous phenomena are derived for a relativistic plasma in an electromagnetic field. The results found in this microscopic context fit precisely into the general scheme obtained on a macroscopic level by Hooyman, de Groot and Mazur.

On the time evolution of large systems: A soluble model with two-body interactions
Kreuzer, H.J.; Capri, A.Z. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 81 (1975) 3, pp. 411-426
We study the time evolution of a large system consisting of two kinds of particles that can be transformed into each other by an external field. The introduction of strong enough two-body interactions leads to the emergence of two time scales. The first one is connected with (small) asymptotic...

On the Fokker-Planck description of compressible fluids
Enz, C.P.; Turski, L.A. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 96 (1979) 3, pp. 369-378
It is shown that the dynamics of a compressible, viscous classical fluid can be brought within the scope of the mixed canonical-dissipative formalism proposed previously as a tool of describing randomly driven systems. The Fokker-Planck equation for compressible fluids is derived and the...

On the Feynman proof of the exact relation between a class of path sums and the general nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation
Dekker, H. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 84 (1976) 1, pp. 205-211
A simple sum over paths will be considered for the general nonlinear diffusion process described by complex coordinates. In order to derive the corresponding stochastic differential equation the Feynman method used in quantum mechanics will be generalised for the present case of a coordinate...

Fluctuation in superradiance
Suzuki, M. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 84 (1976) 1, pp. 48-67
The fluctuation of the intensity of superradiant pulse is calculated by applying a general asymptotic evaluation method of quantal macrovariables to a superradiant master equation. It is shown that the fluctuation of superradiant intensity is proportional to the cube of the number of the...

High temperature series expansions in cooperative Jahn-Teller T-systems
Junker, W.; Wagner, M. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 94 (1978) 3, pp. 385-402
We are concerned with the phase transition behaviour of the cooperative Jahn-Teller T-e system and the T-t system in a simple cubic lattice. High temperature series expansions are derived for the specific heat and the elastic constants. In the latter case the symmetry has to be broken by...
