Program substitutability in network television: Evidence from Argentina
Carare, Octavian; Zentner, Alejandro - In: Information Economics and Policy 24 (2012) 2, pp. 145-160
Inference about television program substitutability from the consumer perspective is complicated by unobserved shocks to viewership and endogenous programming choices by television networks. High-frequency changes in program scheduling are commonplace in Argentina. This paper uses this variation...

Electricity provision and industrial development: Evidence from India
Rud, Juan Pablo - In: Journal of Development Economics 97 (2012) 2, pp. 352-367
I investigate the effect of electricity provision on industrialization using a panel of Indian states for 1965–1984. To address the endogeneity of investment in electrification, I use the introduction of a new agricultural technology intensive in irrigation (the Green Revolution) as a natural...

How does searching for health information on the Internet affect individuals' demand for health care services?
Suziedelyte, Agne - In: Social Science & Medicine 75 (2012) 10, pp. 1828-1835
The emergence of the Internet made health information, which previously was almost exclusively available to health professionals, accessible to the general public. Access to health information on the Internet is likely to affect individuals' health care related decisions. The aim of this...

African-American/white differences in the age of menarche: Accounting for the difference
Reagan, Patricia B.; Salsberry, Pamela J.; Fang, Muriel Z. - In: Social Science & Medicine 75 (2012) 7, pp. 1263-1270
Lifetime health disparity between African-American and white females begins with lower birthweight and higher rates of childhood overweight. In adolescence, African-American girls experience earlier menarche. Understanding the origins of these health disparities is a national priority. There is...

Interval regression models with endogenous explanatory variables
Bettin, Giulia; Lucchetti, Riccardo - In: Empirical Economics 43 (2012) 2, pp. 475-498
We consider the estimation of linear models where the dependent variable is observed by intervals and some continuous regressors may be endogenous. Our approach, an IV version of the technique devised by Stewart (Rev Econ Stud 50(3):737–753, <CitationRef CitationID="CR22">1983</CitationRef>), is fully parametric and two estimators are...</citationref>

Does studying abroad cause international labor mobility? Evidence from Italy
Di Pietro, Giorgio - In: Economics Letters 117 (2012) 3, pp. 632-635
I analyze whether participation in international student exchange programs during university studies affects the subsequent decision to work abroad among Italian graduates. My findings suggest that studying abroad increases likelihood of working abroad by between 18 and 24 percentage points.

Family background variables as instruments for education in income regressions: A Bayesian analysis
Hoogerheide, Lennart; Block, Joern H.; Thurik, Roy - In: Economics of Education Review 31 (2012) 5, pp. 515-523
The validity of family background variables instrumenting education in income regressions has been much criticized. In this paper, we use data from the 2004 German Socio-Economic Panel and Bayesian analysis to analyze to what degree violations of the strict validity assumption affect the...

Inference regarding multiple structural changes in linear models with endogenous regressors
Hall, Alastair R.; Han, Sanggohn; Boldea, Otilia - In: Journal of Econometrics 170 (2012) 2, pp. 281-302
This paper considers the linear model with endogenous regressors and multiple changes in the parameters at unknown times. It is shown that minimization of a Generalized Method of Moments criterion yields inconsistent estimators of the break fractions, but minimization of the Two Stage Least...
