Sustainable Procedures of Corporate Social Responsibility
Güth, Werner; Kliemt, Hartmut - 2021
Directly non-profit-seeking CSR strategies can be indirectly profitable and sustainable provided their presence can be detected by other actors with sufficient reliability at sufficiently low costs. This creates a niche for implementing CSR procedures in ways that are compatible with shareholder...

An Indirect Evolutionary Justification of Risk Neutral Bidding in Fair Division Games
Güth, Werner - 2020
We justify risk neutral equilibrium bidding in commonly known fair division games with incompleteinformation by an evolutionary setup postulating (i) minimal common knowledge, (ii) optimal responses to conjectural beliefs how others behave and (iii) evolutionary selection of conjectural beliefs...

Bidding for the Better Jobs : An Experiment on Gender Differences in Competitiveness without a Real-Effort Task
Angelovski, Andrej - 2020
We model the competitive striving for high-level positions in firms by letting experimental participants compete in bidding for prizes of different sizes in a hierarchy. Our set-up includes both a flat hierarchy and a steep hierarchy. We mainly focus on whether men and women behave differently...

Inefficient cooperation under stochastic and strategic uncertainty
Bruttel, Lisa Verena; Güth, Werner; Nithammer, Juri; … - 2020 - This version: September 2, 2020
Stochastic uncertainty can cause difficult coordination problems that may hinder mutually beneficial cooperation. We propose a mechanism of ex-post voluntary transfers designed to circumvent these coordination problems and ask whether it can do so. To test this, we implement a controlled...

Do people harness deliberate ignorance to avoid envy and its detrimental effects?
Bruttel, Lisa Verena; Güth, Werner; Hertwig, Ralph; … - 2020 - This version: Feb 20, 2020
Envy is an unpleasant emotion. If individuals anticipate that comparing their payoff with the (potentially higher) payoff of others will make them envious, they may want to actively avoid information about other people’s payoffs. Given the opportunity to reduce another person’s payoff, an...

Coordination failure in capacity-then-price-setting games
Güth, Werner; Stadler, Manfred; Zaby, Alexandra - 2019
In capacity-then-price-setting games, soft capacity constraints are planned sales amounts where producing above capacity is possible but more costly. While the subgame perfect equilibrium predicts equal prices, experimental evidence often reveals price discrepancies. This failure to coordinate...

Personal information disclosure under competition for benefits: Is sharing caring?
Ackfeld, Viola; Güth, Werner - 2019
Personal information is shared extensively every day, partly in exchange for benefits or as a reaction to other people's information sharing. In this paper, we experimentally investigate these two factors by analyzing the interaction of peer comparison and incentives to disclose potentially...

Leadership in a Public Goods Experiment with Permanent and Temporary Members
Angelova, Vera; Güth, Werner; Kocher, Martin G. - 2019
We experimentally analyze leading by example in a public goods game with two permanent and two temporary group members. Our results show that leadership when permanent and temporary members interact leads to lower contributions than interaction without leadership.
