Venice Summer Institute 2005: Workshop on Recent Developments in International Trade: Globalization and the Multinational Enterprise
This workshop aims to describe the state-of-the-art with respect to our understanding of Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) in a global perspective, both from a theoretical and an empirical perspective. In doing so, the workshop will also deal with the various policy implications. Among the central issues that could be addressed in this workshop are: • What do we know about the behaviour of Multinational Enterprises, both from a theoretical and empirical perspective? • What is the relationship between globalization and Multinational Enterprises? • Does the New Economic Geography provide additional insights into the behaviour of Multinational Enterprises? • What is the relationship between national economic policies and (footloose) Multinational Enterprises? Do footloose Multinational Enterprises stimulate a race-to-the-bottom?
