Tourism became one of the main elements which revolutionized tertiary industries in the twentieth century. This revolution has dramatically changed the orientation of the sector, and in the recent 20 or 30 years international tourism has become one of the leading sectors of the world economy. The growth of international tourism reflects some profund processes which change the world economy; in particular, it shows its growing coherence, which is now called globalization process. Our article deals with the economic aspects of international tourism development and its contribution towards the economic growth of the world economy.
