A Case-Study Based Analysis of the Implications of Natural Disasters on the Indian Agriculture Industry From 2000-2020
India has a very diverse geography and many aspects of this geographical landscape are tied to its economy. Natural disasters are quite commonplace in some areas and thus the significance of disaster management policy becomes extremely crucial. This research study aimed to analyse policy decisions about natural disasters within the last two decades and their economic and social impacts on the agricultural sector. Specifically, this paper looks at previous literature and economic and social policy in the aftermath of the Bihar Floods of 2008 and The Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004. The results found that there were several issues at the grassroots level that hindered economic recovery in the aforementioned areas. One major finding was that bureaucratic hierarchies imposed severe delays in communication and thereby delayed material help towards disaster-affected areas. It also found that Kit-Based agricultural Relief support was an extremely helpful aid to farmers in the affected areas
