A Case Study of Kerala Dairy Industry - With Special Reference to Ernakulam Regional Co-Operative Milk Producers Union Ltd

After the five year plan there saw a considerable growth of the dairy industry. The tremendous potential of the dairy industry was given a major fill up with Finance Minister and the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Sing’s move to delicense the milk industry in 1992. Today, India is 'The Oyster' of the global dairy industry. It offers opportunities galore to entrepreneurs worldwide, who wish to capitalize on one of the world's largest and fastest growing markets for milk and milk products. The present study was conducted to get a thorough understanding of the structure and functioning of the organisation. It aimed at understanding the methods adopted by MILMA in doing business in Kerala. The study also helped to gain a reasonable overview on the Dairy Industry in Kerala. Kerala has become one of the frontline states in dairying. The demand for milk and milk products in the state is on the rise. The increased pace of urbanization and the purchasing power of the middle class are leading to a tremendous change in the lifestyle and consumption pattern, which will contribute to an increase in the consumption of processed food including dairy products. Infrastructure Investment and foresight in creating brand equity of Milma will help them in maintaining their market leadership. “Being self sufficient in milk production” will continue to be their dream which they intend to achieve within a few years
