An approach to buiIt-form connectivity at an urban scale: variations of connectivity and adjacency measures amongst zones and other related topics
The objective of this paper is to study the relations between connectivity and adjacency measures (Krüger, 1979; and table 1) for the ninety-five kilometre-square cells used to record the urban spatial structure for the town of Reading, England. The measures describe aspects of the built-form patterns in the town: these aspects define five universes of description, <nobr><I>U<sub>n</sub></I>, <I>n</I> = 1,..., 5</nobr> (Krüger, 1979; and figure 1). Correlation analysis is used to determine the degree of redundancy and complementarity between the connectivity and adjacency measures. The original twelve measures are reduced to five. Spatial representation effects are examined. Comparisons are then made with Kruskal (1954) and Roach (1968). Finally relationships between built-form measures and channel-network measures are tested by use of regression techniques.
