An Investigation of the AHP Judgment Rendering Process

The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is discussed and illustrated. A controlled experiment is conducted to ascertain if the quality of judgments rendered using the AHP is task dependent or is affected by psychological or demographic variables. No evidence is found to suggest that sex, disembedding skill or measures of verbal or mathematical scholastic aptitude are useful in predicting the ability to reader consistent judgments using the analytic hierarchy process. Further, the performance across tasks does not vary systematically. Therefore, in organizing groups of individual to render judgments using AHP, sex, disembedding skill, scholastic aptitude measure by the SAT, or pervious performance rendering judgments using the AHP should not be used as screening criteria
