Application of information technologies in the optimisation of roll shop department programming : final report
The overall aim of this project was to evaluate the use of information technologies in roll shop department programming and the associated technical and economic risks and profits involved in these techniques. The results are structured on three different levels : information systems, models and new parameters, and data mining. Several specifie systems (technological database and user interface) and some tools for data analysis and information delivery have been developed and implemented in several roll shop departments. Sorne models for a rational and optmised organisation of roll shops have been introduced, with some effects in the modification of the layout. Some tasks have especially been focussed on the introduction of new developments (for example, online work, roll surface monitoring and friction modelling) in the evaluation of the roll performances. Very important activities were developed in the area of data mining, based on the information from the systems developed during the project. Interesting conclusions were found in all the sites (Sendzimir mills, hot strip mills and compact strip production). The conclusions are very positive in terms of actual information systems installed and knowledge extraction from the data-mining process carried out in the technical databases.
