The main objective is to update the findings of a previous study, commissioned by the European Commission in 2009, entitled "Indicators for independence and efficient functioning of audiovisual media services regulatory bodies for the purpose of enforcing the rules in the AVMS Directive" (SMART 2009/0001, hereinafter: INDIREG study). The study therefore aims to provide updates of the detailed description and analysis of the institutional, legal and regulatory framework governing the regulatory bodies competent for audiovisual media services in EU Member States and candidate countries to the EU (Objective 1) and the analysis of the implementation of said framework in practice and its effectiveness (Objective 2)
