"Burros sem rabo" : invisibilidade e consumo ostensivo
Josilene Barbosa do Nascimento
Like the inhabitants of the city Leonia, according to Italo Calvino, we live the era of consumerism and the exacerbated production of garbage. The problem of excessive waste from bulimic consumption has resulted in the emergence of recyclable waste pickers, who are supposed to have their consumption oriented only to the basic needs of survival, considering that the gains made in the harvest work are scarce. However, would the scavengers be immune to this consuming fever? What does it mean to consume for this group? Does a relationship exist between their consumption practices and the work done on collecting recyclables? A job, supposedly, socially devalued? Readers will discover in this work that there is a great misconception in the concept that the consumption of the scavengers is strictly directed to the basic necessities of survival
