Calculating Scientific-Technical Progress in Forecasting the Population's Demand
The mounting influence of scientific-technical progress on the personal consumption sphere places a number of new important problems before national economic planning. One of them is the elaboration and further improvement of methods for forecasting the population's demand. Such forecasts hold great importance for improving the planning of consumer goods production, for determining the future development of agricultural and industrial branches specializing in the production of equipment, raw materials, and supplies for branches in Department II, for the elaboration of plans for the growth of retail trade turnover and its commodity backing, as well as for the solution of many practical problems in day-to-day planning and in the operational management of the development of industry and trade.
