Capacity estimation of traffic circles under mixed traffic conditions using micro-simulation technique
This paper describes the micro-simulation modelling of traffic circles of developing cities and the capacity estimation thereof using simulation results. A new microscopic simulation technique, where a co-ordinate approach to modelling vehicle location is adopted, has been used to model the traffic circles. The model has been applied to study traffic operation at the traffic circles under mixed traffic conditions of developing cities. It has been found that the entry capacity of an approach of a traffic circle depends on the circulating flow, roadway width, size of the traffic circle and traffic composition. Using the simulation results, an equation has also been regressed for estimating the entry capacity from the above influencing variables. ©
