Coaches’ Profile and Adequacy of Sports Equipment and Facilities Vis-à-vis Athletic Performance in the ESSU–Guiuan : Input to Policy Program
This study employed descriptive-correlation which involved 96 faculty-coaches in ESSU–Guiuan. Data were retrieved using survey questionnaire. These were tallied and analyzed using appropriate statistical tools such as percentage, mean, Pearson product-moment correlation and Cramer's V.Majority of the faculty-coaches in ESSU –Guiuan were 32-42 years old, mostly males, had earned units leading to MA/MS degree and with 1-5 years coaching experience. Some had attended trainings conducted in the school/campus, division, regional and national levels. The age, gender, and educational qualification of the faculty-coaches have no significant association to the performance of the athletes, but the number of years of coaching and the number of trainings attended by the faculty-coaches were significantly associated to the performance of the athletes. There is a need to improve the sports equipment and facilities since these were rated moderately adequate and inadequate by faculty-coaches. Its improvement would enhance the performance of athletes. As to performance of the athletes, men and women athletes consistently showed good performance in the individual games. In the group games however, it was only the male athletes which consistently showed good performance. Their female counterpart only demonstrated fair performance. While the findings of the study confirm that the number of years of coaching as well the number of in-service trainings attended by faculty-coaches at the school/campus or division level; as well as sports equipment and facilities showed significant associations to the performance of the athletes, these indicators should be further enhanced and/or provided in the campus in order to produce better-performing or excellent athletes
