Code on Wages, 2019 : a Paradigm Shift in Enforcement of Wage Related Labour Laws

The Code on Wages, 2019 is an Act that consolidates, simplifies and rationalises the provisions of the four existing labour laws concerning the Minimum Wages; Payment of Wages; Payment of Bonus and Equal Remuneration. This article highlights the material changes brought by the Code on Wages, 2019 in the applicability, scope and enforcement of the existing four wage laws being subsumed and repealed through the Code. For this purpose, the main provisions analysed in this work includes the key definitions, provisions pertaining to the inspection; adjudication mechanisms, offences & penalties and other new provisions introduced in the Code on Wages, 2019
