Through remote work, business operations have become widespread, providing companies with the capability of accessing a global talent base and flexibility within business operations. However, this shift has made corporate networks vulnerable as employees access from their personal devices, unsecured home networks, and cloud based collaboration tools. Due to the increase of the attack surface, remote work environments are becoming more susceptible to various types of cyber attacks, such as phishing attacks, ransomware, insider risks, and zero-day exploits. The evolving risks no longer allow traditional security models designed for office centralized networks to be effective, requiring a move to a proactive and adaptive cybersecurity strategy. This chapter explores the key security threatening presented by remote work and specific technological, human, and regulatory challenges between distributing organizations secures workforces.
