Junge Menschen in Europa haben weiterhin große Schwierigkeiten beim Eintritt in den Arbeitsmarkt. Obwohl die Jugendarbeitslosenquote in einigen Mitgliedstaaten allmählich zurückgeht, konnten insgesamt 23 % der jungen Arbeitssuchenden in Europa im Alter zwischen 15 und 24 Jahren in der EU28 im Januar 2014 keine Arbeit finden. 2012 waren 14,6 Mio. junge Menschen in Europa ohne Arbeit und absolvierten keine allgemeine oder berufliche Ausbildung (NEETs), das entspricht 15,9 % der Gesamtbevölkerung der Altersgruppe von 15 bis 29 Jahren. Dieser Bericht analysiert die Arbeitsmarktsituation junger Menschen in Europa; dabei konzentriert er sich insbesondere auf ihren Übergang von der Schule ins Erwerbsleben, betrachtet aber auch ihren allgemeineren Übergang ins Erwachsenenleben. Darüber hinaus untersucht der Bericht die Fähigkeit junger Menschen, trotz aller Widrigkeiten während der Krise ihren Arbeitsplatz zu behalten, und zeichnet ihren Übergang aus befristeten in unbefristete Arbeitsverhältnisse nach. Eine Erörterung der Stärken und Schwächen ausgewählter politischer Maßnahmen schließt den Bericht ab.
