Deal with Knowledge Inertia for Post-Adoption of Innovations : An Empiracal Study with Healthcare Professionals1

Knowledge inertia is one of hurdles for innovation assimilation at the organizational level. This research investigates its impact at the individual level among professionals or knowledge workers and reveals the mechanisms either mitigating or deteriorating its impact on professionals’ post-adoption of innovations. A survey study involving 337 clinical physicians from two specialized and three comprehensive hospitals reveals the negative impact of knowledge inertia on the post-adoption intention of innovations among physicians. Such negative impact is more salient among those physicians with more knowledge potential. But perceived organizational support could mitigate such negative impact of knowledge inertia
