Demystifying the Decline in the Labor Force Participation Rate

The attached article attempts to demystify the decline in the Labor Force Participation Rate by addressing the route causes, namely structural/demographic issues, which would have reduced the LFPR anyway no matter who was running the U.S. Government. The article provides a mathematical reconciliation of the change in the LFPR from 2007 to 2015, provides a thorough review by age cohort, and provides a rational explanation for why 70% of the decline is due to structural/demographic issues and not due to policy issues. The article concludes by suggesting that the although the LFPR has declined, the paranoia over the degree of the decline is way overblown
