Design and Implementation of Robotic Arms With Object Recognition
The project focuses on designing and implementing a robotic arm featuring object recognition, powered by a Pixy 2 camera and an Arduino control system integrated with servo motors for optimized functionality. Mechanical components were developed in SolidWorks, leveraging finite element analysis (FEA) and range of motion (ROM) simulations validated through physical testing. A combination of off-the-shelf and custom components adhering to ASTM52921-13 and IEC standards was utilized. The incorporation of the Pixy 2 camera's object recognition functions exceeds the expectations of a regular smart feature and exemplifies the robotic arm's sophisticated operation. The resulting product is a robotic arm that can pick items recognize and differentiate the object it is holding to transport them to their associated storage areas efficiently. It also opens the door to future development via modifications to various areas of the robotic arm and describes the changes required to suit different use cases or industries.
