Disruption Mitigation in Complex Hybrid Supply and Production FMCG Networks : A Digital Twin Approach

Managing complex hybrid supply and production networks is a major challenge in the face of supply and demand disruptions due to heavy reliance on managerial experience and manual business model implementations. As a prevailing challenge within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, the lack of end-to-end (E2E) connectivity and visibility, coupled with high demand for customized products has driven digital twin (DT) adoption to enhance business agility. While DT are utilized in existing studies to optimize supply chain and manufacturing operations, few studies cover its role in supporting multi-echelon supply and production facilities holistically. As such, this paper proposes an integrated DT system for disruption mitigation in hybrid manufacturing and distribution facilities. An industry case study featuring an FMCG product line is further exploited to validate its cost-effectiveness towards establishing manufacturing flexibility and resilient supply chains
