Drivers for Going Green in the Housing Market : An Economic Model
The paradox of the slow diffusion of apparently cost-effective green housing has attracted increasing attention. Our model analysis provides some key points for understanding this paradox and focuses on factors that undermine the economic feasibility of green housing and hinder its adoption. The simulation results shed light on the role of green incremental cost, discount rate, and advertising authenticity. In terms of policy instruments, we not only verify the effect of subsidies to developers, but also find the positive influence of local governments' green practices in public housing. This paper can enhance policy makers' understanding of the drivers for green housing diffusion and provide a systematic economic framework for further research on this issue
