Resource sharing is proposed as a fundamental source of efficiency, but conjectured to be difficult to implement because of intensive information requirements. A comprehensive design approach is advocated in this article involving new technologies such as electronic services, new intermediaries that are incentive aligned with customers, and new transactions targeting consumer tasks and consumer goals. Electronic Services and related technologies enable the delivery of complex resource-sharing services efficiently. New intermediaries that are incentive-aligned with consumers enable the design of customer-centric resource-sharing initiatives. Finally, new transactions focusing on customer tasks and customer goals are proposed as the implementation mechanism for these new electronic services and the new intermediaries. Examples are given from a variety of fields to demonstrate these new transactions
