EU action against climate change
The European Union is committed to global efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from human activities that threaten to cause serious disruption to the worldu0092s climate. Building on the innovative mechanisms set up under the Kyoto Protocol to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) u0097 the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Joint Iimplementation (JI) and international emissions trading u0097 the EU has developed the Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) as the cornerstone of its strategy for cutting greenhouse gas emissions cost-effectively.
