European research infrastructures in motion : design studies and support to the construction of new infrastructures

Several schemes have been developed to improve the way current research infrastructures are used in Europe. These schemes - and the projects funded by them - are found in a sister folder focusing on 'existing RIs'. In this folder, you will fi nd EU-backed projects and studies exploring future RIs across Europe. The funding schemes in place to support this are called: 'Design Studies' (DS) and 'Construction of New Infrastructures' (CNI). Design Studies investigate, on a case-by-case basis, the feasibility and technical preparations needed for new research infrastructures which demonstrate a clear European dimension and stakeholder base. Importantly, these studies take into account 'all' potential users of the future research infrastructure. Construction of New Infrastructures provides support for the development of a limited number of projects aiming at the construction of new infrastructures. These projects are carefully chosen for their clear added value to the European Research Area.
