Explaining the Lower Usage Rate of Indigenous Construction Materials in Ghanaian Public Buildings Using Bounded Rationality
There has been increased adoption of foreign construction materials more than indigenous construction materials (ICM) in Ghana. This paper aims to explore how ICMs usage rate can be improved to sustain the local construction industry. Through use of mixed-method and bounded rationality, relative high ICM cost and non-availability of alternatives have been found as factors largely responsible for constrained ICMs usage. This paper draws on the synergy of theory and empirical data to give advanced insight into factors constraining the use of ICMs. The research has carved a path for nurturing sustainable construction industry in developing countries through indigenous resources
