Factors Affecting Use of Mobile Phone by Teenagers and Youth : A Case of Kathmandu, Nepal

This study examines the factors affecting the use of mobile phones by teenagers and youth: A case of Kathmandu, Nepal. The usage of mobile phones is the dependent variable. Communication, entertainment, net surfing, mobile functionality, and privacy are taken as independent variables. The primary sources of data are used to assess the opinion of respondents to find out the usage of mobile phones among teenagers and youths inside Kathmandu Valley. The survey is based on 114 respondents from Kathmandu, Nepal. To achieve the purpose of the study, structured questionnaires are prepared. The regression models are estimated to test the significance and usage of mobile phones among teenagers inside Kathmandu Valley. The result shows that communication and net surfing have a positive relationship with the usage of mobile phones. It indicates that the better the communication and net surfing facilities, the higher would be the use of mobile phones. Similarly, entertainment, mobile functionality, and privacy are positively related to usage of mobile phone. The regression result shows that communication, entertainment, net surfing, mobile functionality, and privacy have a significant positive impact on usage of mobile phones. Likewise, the beta coefficients for communication, entertainment, net surfing, mobile functionality, and privacy are also positively significant with usage of mobile phones.
