Fleet-Wide Bus Drivecycle Modelling and Energy Estimation Using Real-Time Transit Feed Data

To ensure electric bus deployments are affordable and reliable, energy consumption planning must be performed. This work outlines a data-driven method for estimating the energy consumption for a fleet of electric buses by constructing drivecycle profiles from low-fidelity speed and position data collected from General Transit Feed Specification real-time feeds. The low-fidelity data is collected for a given transit route over several days and derived into a single high-fidelity drivecycle. An energy estimation model as well as computed kinematic statistics are used to validate the GTFS drivecycle construction method against 1 Hz GPS measured data from the same transit system. This method can be used by transit agencies and researchers to easily and accurately perform energy consumption modelling on a fleet-wide basis
