Gender equality index 2017 : measuring gender equality in the European Union 2005-2015 : main findings
Gender equality is a fundamental value of the European Union and is essential for its development, growth and cohesion. As such, measuring progress in gender equality is an integral part of effective policymaking. Since its launch in 2013, the Gender Equality Index of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has been recognised for its notable contribution to policy debates and increased awareness about gender equality at the EU and national levels. The Gender Equality Index was launched for the first time in June 2013, based on 2010 data. In June 2015, EIGE presented the second edition of the Index, which for the first time enabled a comparison over time by providing scores for 2005, 2010 and 2012. The 3rd edition enables the monitoring of developments in gender equality in the EU over the past 10 years, by providing scores for 2005, 2010, 2012 and 2015.
