Global profit maximization and the export performance of foreign subsidiaries in India

Analysis of the export performance of a multinational's overseas subsidiaries, building upon the global profit-maximization (GPM) hypothesis. It is shown that if the subsidiary is partly owned by host-country shareholders, the amount that the subsidiary may export will depend on the parent company's ownership share in the subsidiary. Reference is made to the Indian situation. (NL-409)
