How Does Information Technology Pay Off ? Firm-level Evidence in Organizational Structures and Human Resource Management(in Japanese)

The purpose of this study is to investigate how corporate reforms in organizational structures and human resource management affect the effective use of information technology based on the nation-wide survey data from 3141 firms. Multiple comparison analysis revealed four observations. First, reforms in organizational structures and human resource management significantly affect the effectiveness of information technology. Second, small size firms have difficulties on human resource management in their use of the technology. Third, some industries such as medical service and education are less enthusiastic to effective use of information technology. Fourth, heavy users of information technology are located in Tokyo Metropolitan, but they are not always successful in the "effective" use of the technology due to the mismatch of corporate reforms.
