Implementing the geographical information system elements (GIS) of the water framework directive : Guidance document No 9

This document, produced by Working Group 3.1 GIS, aims at guiding experts and stakeholders in the implementation of Directive 2000/60/EC establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy (the water framework directive). It focuses on the implementation of its GIS elements in the broader context of the development of integrated river basin management plans as required by the directive. The guidance will be useful for: preparing the geographic datasets for the preparation of maps required by the directive; preparing the final maps as requested under the directive; or reporting the maps and GIS layers to the European Commission as required by the directive.
