Improved Cavity Detection With the Use of Image Processing Techniques for More Precise Dental Care: Cavity Detection Using Image Processing Technique
X-ray technology is indispensable in dentistry, enabling the detection of hidden decay and ailments. Dental cavities, stemming from bacterial activity, are particularly problematic, causing lasting damage by creating voids in tooth structure. Timely management and treatment are crucial to prevent further harm. Detecting cavities via X-ray imaging re-lies on brightness alterations reflecting depth, surface orientation, mate-rial composition, and lighting differences. A distinct contrast exists be-tween cavity-ridden and healthy teeth, requiring meticulous X-ray im-age processing using enhancement, segmentation, and feature extraction techniques. We integrated these methods in MATLAB, achieving a precision rate of 96.28%, surpassing 27 other combinations. This highlights the efficacy of our approach in enhancing dental cavity detection accuracy using X-ray imaging.
