Is strategising having a positive impact in the alignment between technology innovation effectiveness and operational effectiveness?
Organisations are increasingly investing in complex technological innovations such as building an enterprise information system (EIS) to improve operational performance. However, the implementation of EIS tend to have an excessive focus on either the purity of the system (system effectiveness) or the resulting operational performance of the system. Both positions are detrimental to the long-term enterprise benefits through failure to achieve the real value of innovation. Initial findings from factor analysis suggested that dimensions such as quality of information stemming from technology innovation effectiveness, and performance objectives such as quality and speed stemming from operational effectiveness are important and significantly well correlated factors that promote the alignment between technology innovation effectiveness and operational effectiveness. Multiple regression analysis has been used to identify the structural relationships and provide an explanation of the role of strategies, in leading to continuous improvement in the operations.
