MAKING SENSE OF ‘TRANSITION’ AND ‘NGOISATION’ OF DEVELOPMENT : A Theoretical Exploration

Development has been one of the most important paradigms of the last few decades. It entails reorganising the relationship between state, society and market. NGOs have become a crucial element in discourse of development which are attributed with the task of addressing the discontents of market-led economic growth. This paper attempts to understand ‘NGOisation’ of development and explore possible political outcomes of the same. It argues that NGOs through their practice of providing individual remedies to structural issues preclude just transformation of structures of inequality
