Measuring Interaction Effect by Latent Moderated Structural (LMS) Modeling for Mobile Device Usage in e-Learning in Thailand

The issue presented in this research is whether mobile phone may be considered e-learning technology for students in Thailand. The objective of the research is to provide a practical tool for academics, researchers, and policymakers in evaluating the linkage between e-learning and mobile phone. The intended contributions of this research are to (i) verify the utility potential of mobile telecommunication device in e-learning, and (ii) provide quantitative methods under Latent Moderated Structural (LMS) model as a tool for research in e-learning. Statistical tests were used to verify significant association among various explanatory factors. The dependent variable is the use of mobile device for knowledge acquisition. The independent factors consist of perception of the source of information, access to technology, and impact of mobile phone. It was found that the effect of mobile phone on e-learning came from (a) device functionality and contemporary cultural change by mobile device, and (b) online accessibility and learner’s desire self-expression. Using LMS modeling, the latent interaction among the four explanatory factors was verified. It was found that y3 = 0.50 with T= 2.19 for mobile phone features and positive change on contemporary culture effecting e-learning, and y3 = 0.15 with t = 2.76 for Internet access and individual freedom of expression as key factors in e-learning. This research is a contribution to the literature for having applied LMS to discover the interaction effects among independent variables in mobile device usage for e-learning
