Optimal Design of Under-Frequency Load Shedding (UFLS) Scheme Using Evolutionary Programming Technique
Albeit the operation of the Under-Frequency Load Shedding (UFLS) scheme is fairly straightforward, the design of an optimal scheme is not as simple due to many design and performance criteria to be taken into consideration. The existence of an automated revision scheme will ease the scheme revision process, as manual trial-and-error setting adjustments will not be required. In this paper, Classical Evolutionary Programming (CEP) is used as the optimization method to find the optimal settings for UFLS. The penalty method was adopted as the constraint-handling method and various adaptation methods were incorporated to tune the CEP algorithm to the problem while solving the problem. The power system in Sarawak was used as the testsystem to determine the effectiveness of this method in formulating an optimal UFLS system. Simulation results have proved that CEP is able to provide satisfactory results
