- 4 -with the help of influential ladies. Dr. Miescher requests advice about fund raising modalities.External IUIS FinancesDr. de Weck suggests to continue approaches to foundations and suggests that the final solution will be ICSU membership. Dr. Voisin will approach foundations in France. Dr. Metzger proposes to create a finance committee, and to raise funds by exhibits at congresses, eventually with the help of an advertising company. Dr. Raynaud and Dr. Schwick emphasize difficulties in raising funds from foundations. D r. Trnka points to the fact that money can be made available from industry and governments only for specific items but not for general administration.A motion is presented by Dr. Metzger to "create a finance committee in charge of investigating the financial situation of th e IUIS. This committee would have to circulate copy of his conclusions and specific suggestions to the various national societies around February 1974". The motion is seconded by Dr. Natvig and carried unanimously.Membership feeDr. Roitt proposes that the richest Societies should raise their fee, e.g. to US$5 per member and that the others should be encouraged to do so also. Dr. Pondman points out that a raise to US$1 corresponds to a raise of 20%. His society is only able to pay US$0.75 in 1973 and US$1 in 1974.Dr. Natvig proposes to raise the registration fee by US$10 at the 2nd International Congress and to give this surplus money to the IUIS. For Dr. Asherson, this proposal is unpractical since registration fees have already been set. D r. Asherson hopes to obtain surplus money from which half should be kept for the 3rd International Congress and the other half for bursaries. Dr. Metzger asks for the budget of the congress.
